Don’t be Shit out of Luck: Miry Brook Road Sewer Exploration
Currently Miry Brook Road is on Septic with no public sewer.
Several property owners along Miry Brook are exploring putting in a public sewer to give Miry Brook Road Addresses the following benefits:
Sewer provides additional opportunity for growth within Miry Brook properties
Sewer reduces the cost of septic maintenance for Miry Brook properties
Sewer reduces the risk of personal septic failure for Miry Brook properties.
What are next steps?
Please help us understand who might be interested, or who is definitely not interested, by filling out this Google Form- https://forms.gle/Bs8TC6XzNobKDDNx8
If you are interested in proceeding, please print and sign an original of the Petition (click here) and mail to SCG at 45B Miry Brook Road, Danbury, CT 06810
If you would prefer we mail you a Petition to sign, please provide your information in the form and we will provide.
Background
A couple of the property owners in the middle of Miry Brook have been discussing the opportunity to install a City Sewer line along Miry Brook Road with the City Engineers and would like to share information with you, to further explore this opportunity.
The process is lengthy, with many check points along the way, prior to any commitment or cost to you.
Our first step is to understand who might be interested in exploring a possible sewer system further by signing the Petition Document. The sewer line could run from Backus to Wallingford, or any portion thereof on Miry Brook. If one end of the street has a lot of interest, or no interest, that will help guide the City’s path forward in exploring the new sewer main.
There are no commitments to be made right now, other than asking the City to review our request by signing a petition.
We have included detailed information for your review and look forward to any questions or conversations you would like to have about exploring this opportunity.
How does it benefit me?

What are the costs, when?
At this time, there are no costs. Prior to any costs being incurred by property owners, the city would provide the assessment estimate, hold public hearings to confirm interest and provide a final cost of the assessment. This process can take 12-18 months after petition signing.
If the project moves ahead, once installed:
Sewer Main Assessment: each property owner that has frontage along the new main will pay an assessment, whether you connect or not. This can be paid in full or amortized over 19 years. The City will provide this estimate with the first round of design.
Connection fee: if you wish to connect to the main, there is a one-time permit fee and connection charge. This is estimated at $10-20,000 depending on distance, and the type of flow required.
Ongoing costs: Once all is installed, and if you are connected, there is a quarterly sewer fee, like a water charge. See the attached document for how that is calculated.
