Boot on the Road: Connecticut to Mexico (Day 5)
Pinar O.
🚩 Day 5
We are in New Mexico and are almost inside the story of Breaking Bad. If we can find time tomorrow, we will visit the filming areas. We wish for a photoshoot with the famous RV and Boot side by side. I am waiting for approval.
The road was very fascinating today. Endless roads. Cowboy hats. Cowboy boots. Giant fields. Farming. Agriculture. It's a different world and a different lifestyle. Being on the road makes you think. When you see other people and other lives, you question yourself. You understand that there are so many things that you do not know and so many stories that you have not heard yet. My heart was crushed when I saw three women calculating and planning to pay $3 for breakfast. There are lots of people who live very tough lives. I wanted to go and buy them breakfast. After hearing what I was trying to do, the waiter stopped me. Held my arm and said, "this is the middle of America; they may feel bad, they may be having a rough day, and they may be armed." She was right. They were like the characters of the Ozark (Netflix), three Ruths together. My mind is still with them. I can't stop thinking about them. Their faces, hands, the fingers holding coins. And all of the other people who are not seeing them—acting like anything is happening.
For the first time in my life, my desire to help turned to anxiety. They left, and when I got in the car, I donated to an organization fighting hunger on their behalf. In short, we all live in a glass cell. And there are people out there who need so much help. While we are unfortunately so busy with our own lives...
I saw many warrior women on this trip working and standing up for their lives and families. Mid-America, treeless fields, where no one passes. A woman who is almost 70 years old but still cleans the tables in a restaurant. Another woman is driving a truck with a broken arm. Two other women are trying to make omelets for everyone without English. Another almost like nine months pregnant and still working and serving coffee. These working women support the economies of countries. And unfortunately, they are not noticed by anyone.
Today I end the day with many question marks. And I am trying to find an answer to the question of what I can do for them. Or what we can do all together.
I will never forget the opportunity Boot gave me! As a former journalist and someone who has lived in the US for seven years only. This journey fed my soul, and I can't explain how full my mind is.
Thank you so much for following our adventure and for your comments, messages, and encouragement.
